AWARD-WINNING ISLINGTON ARCHITECTS

“Dani and Harry supported us with the design of our new kitchen extension and loft conversion. From start to finish, nothing was too much trouble, and they really went above and beyond to help us through the process.

They listened to what we wanted and came back with really inventive ways to achieve it … Could not recommend them highly enough.”

“We used My/Architect for the design and planning process for a very complicated side extension / deconversion project. Emily, the project lead, and Dani were great – organised, intelligent and really nice to work with. They come up with smart solutions to the trickier design questions and handled the planning application with Islington council smoothly.”

We offer a fully integrated service that brings together architecture, interiors, contractor coordination and project management. Our approach is designed to provide homeowners with professional oversight throughout the design and delivery process.

ESSENTIAL ISLINGTON PLANNING RESOURCES

To see if neighbours have done similar extensions or to check your own property’s history, use the Islington Planning Search. You can search by postcode or street address to view approved designs and decision notices.

There are 42 conservation areas in Islington, each with strict protection rules. You can check if your home is affected and download the specific design guidance for your street on the Islington council’s Conservation Areas page.

For detailed rules on everything from basement excavation to street design, refer to Islington’s Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs). These are material considerations for any application.

If you suspect your home is listed, you must check the official register before starting work. Search the Historic England List to find the specific listing entry for your address.

Islington has a mandatory list of drawings and reports required to register an application. Review the Planning Validation Requirements to ensure you have the correct documentation.

Basement and ground floor extensions often require a flood risk assessment. You can check the long-term flood risk for your specific area using the government’s Flood Map for Planning.

Once planning is approved, you will need to apply for Building Regulations approval. You can submit your application directly via Islington Building Control.

Most planning applications should be submitted via the national Planning Portal, which allows you to upload drawings and pay fees online.

WHY HOMEOWNERS CHOOSE US

Our Architectural Experience in Islington

Our architectural experience in the borough is extensive, with approximately 10-15% of our annual projects located here.

We focus on the sensitive renovation of Islington’s diverse housing stock, from the grand Georgian terraces of Clerkenwell to the Victorian family homes of Highbury.

We specialise in delivering high-value enhancement, including loft conversions, rear extensions, and full-scale refurbishments.

Rather than a one-size-fits-all solution, we apply our expertise in local design to ensure that significant alterations respect the historic fabric of the building while maximising space for modern living

Treating the structural shell and internal fit-out as separate phases often leads to disjointed results. By handling both under one roof, we ensure that elements like joinery, lighting, and material finishes are considered from the very first planning concept.
