AWARD-WINNING CAMDEN ARCHITECTS

“Dani and Harry supported us with the design of our new kitchen extension and loft conversion. From start to finish, nothing was too much trouble, and they really went above and beyond to help us through the process.

They listened to what we wanted and came back with really inventive ways to achieve it … Could not recommend them highly enough.”

ESSENTIAL CAMDEN PLANNING RESOURCES

To see if neighbours have done similar extensions or to check your own property’s history, use the Camden Planning Explorer. You can search by postcode or street address to view approved designs and decision notices.

There are 40 conservation areas in Camden, covering areas from Hampstead to Holborn. You can check if your home is affected and download the specific design guidance for your street on the Camden Council’s Conservation Areas page.

For detailed rules on everything from basement excavation to street design, refer to the Camden Planning Guidance (CPG) documents. These are material considerations for any application.

If you suspect your home is Grade II listed, you must check the official register before starting work. Search the Historic England List to find the specific listing entry for your address.

Camden has a mandatory list of drawings and reports required to register an application. Review the Local Area Requirements to ensure you have the correct documentation.

Basement and ground floor extensions often require a flood risk assessment. You can check the long-term flood risk for your specific area using the government’s Flood Map for Planning.

Most planning applications should be submitted via the national Planning Portal, which allows you to upload drawings and pay fees online.

Once planning is approved, you will need to apply for Building Regulations approval. You can submit your application directly via Camden Building Control.

CAMDEN ARCHITECTS FAQS

Development in the borough is tightly regulated, particularly for the historic terraces found in Belsize Park and surrounding neighbourhoods.

We have deep experience navigating these local constraints, managing the submission of detailed architectural drawings to secure approval for extensions that respect the area’s heritage character while optimising internal space.

Yes. A significant portion of our work involves adapting the Victorian and Georgian housing stock found between King’s Cross and Hampstead.

Our focus is on retaining period features while radically reconfiguring layouts to suit contemporary open-plan living, ensuring the architectural integrity of the street is maintained.

We provide a builder matchmaking service to pair you with trusted partners suited to the specific logistics of working in busy North London locations. We then oversee the project through to completion, managing site queries and ensuring the build quality matches the design intent.

Treating the structural shell and internal fit-out as separate phases often leads to disjointed results. By handling both under one roof, we ensure that elements like joinery, lighting, and material finishes are considered from the very first planning concept, resulting in a cohesive, premium home.
